![]() ![]() But I've always been a fan of his other movies. Haven't seen his newest film myself, yet. And I would have to say that as Ezer_Pavle said Joe does struggle with tying all his wonderous scenes cohesively together, but I enjoy them so much on their own that it doesn't necessarily bother me. I loved allowing my eyes wander across the frames, much like when at a gallery with intense focus. I do think the ending comes off a bit hammy, and was bothered by the audio recording quality (unless it was just my screening), but this felt cleansing and powerful to me. I personally don't feel every part of the story necessarily has to reinforce the narrative. I understand your gripes with plot points that don't quite tie in, but they didn't bother me as they felt like textures to the story and I was primarily focused on the key mystery of the sound. She's then encapsulated by this phenomena and drawn into the lives of others within the world. I love how it projects shamanic prophecy onto a worldly person within a bourgeois existence. However, I felt that this is possibly Joe's most accessible spiritual mystery from what I've seen. Now, I do love slow meditative cinema and think this is definitely on the most meditative side so I completely get people not liking it. I saw it at the London Film Festival and found it pretty transcendent. But the "present day" Jessica is seated at the table in her dream so she gets confused. The dinner scene is an event that occurred before the dentist Andres died and before the sister got very sick. We see Juan and her and the child leaving the home in the rain without the sister. Jessica signed the death certificate and other papers. His nose was sore as a Child because his parents put his face on the pillow so he would not see and absorb too much experience. They were caused by Hernan’s spaceship leaving earth and leaving him behind. The older Hernan memories are the source of the boom sounds she has been hearing. The young Hernan was the older Hernan contacting her in a dream to help her reach him. When he is in close contact with Jessica she receives his childhood memories very vividly. ![]() It is all overwhelming for him so he stays a hermit. He has special powers to remember all events of his life, to pick up past experiences of strangers from material objects, he also can “die” for awhile and regain life as he does in the film. Hernan is an outer space alien in the form of an older male human. She apparently has strong telepathic receiving powers. To make it more complex, she is also receiving faint memories and contact from of the old Hernan person who she meets in the second half. That is why the viewer is seeing Jessica confused at what is being said at times. Since her memories are presented out of historical order and they are also somewhat distorted by her present knowledge and they are not exact replicas of what happened. In the first half of the film Jessica is recalling memories of her past while asleep and dreaming. Below is what I think is happening in the film: It is important to watch it with full closed captioning and full english subtitle if you are english speaking. ![]()
